Round here Ruggin’

In my new found love affair with color I opened the door to casually flirting with a boho spin on my Modern Rustic design. My home down to its core is a 1918 coastal colonial. Fresh off the back of my reno and COUNTLESS hours of peeling back layers of flooring, framing & straight up nonsense ultimately the square footage remains the same.

My office at any given point can double as a laundry room, reading nook, or even my dog Genevieve’s favorite spot to leave me presents that my roomba later drags around.

This room being on a smaller scale easily appeared congested visually. After ditching my bulky desk & rectangular rug for a console table & round jute rug I find myself less frustrated visually and its so much easier so clean around. Smaller rooms can look spacious given the opportunity and the roundness of the rug adds a welcoming softness you won’t regret.

Size matters, when picking out a rug its so easy to mess up on sizing if you aren’t clear on the surrounding furniture.

Here’s my guide;

  1. Get clear what’s going on it. I.e. I knew my desk was going to be 4ft long and that I wanted a bit hanging off the sides so I went with a 6ft in diameter.
  2. How much space do you have ? Placing a round rug to me is different than a rectangular because of the fact you want to show off its edges or at least a majority of them. In tighter spaces I always recommend a couple inches from each piece of furniture or walls. Show off your edges !
